There are cleaning cloth called “Flower cleaning cloth” in Yonezawa. It’s been said that Sashiko grew out of making an entrance mat by wives of poor samurai. Its beauty is no longer cleaning cloth but craft. Kiyoko Endo has revived them as “Harakata Sashiko” to pass special skills of Sashiko on to next generation.
